Volunteers Can Make a Difference

The Great Falls Jaycees has been DISSOLVED however,

The Great Falls Jaycees made a HUGE impact in the City of Great Falls.
Jaycee Park and the surrounding residents have benefited by the
many improvements provided by caring volunteers.

What are you doing as a Volunteer to help out Great Falls?

Change Your World!!!

This page is dedicated to the various businesses and organizations that helped support and promote the Great Falls Jaycees.  They allowed the Great Falls Jaycees an opportunity to make a difference in Great Falls.  Even though the Great Falls Jaycees have decided to dissolve it is still important for these businesses to be recognized for their generosity and support.
We could not have accomplished the many projects and events
we took on without your support.  THANK YOU !

  • and our children also did a great job helping!!!

The day began at 8:30 a.m.  My two son's and I arrived at Jaycee Park, unloaded the rakes, shovels, garbage can, and wheel barrow.  We started by picking up all the trash and rocks around the swings and slide.  Then we began spreading the bark mulch.  Leslie, Mike and his two boys arrived a few minutes later with their shovels and rakes and we all started to work on Phase Two of our Jaycee Park Project.  It didn't take us very long to spread out the bark mulch that the City Park and Rec. Dept. had dropped off for us.  Amy, Randy, and their daughter arrived at the park just in time to help with our next project. (The practice wall at the tennis court)  Leslie went to drop off some items to Ron for the Kids In Transition (K.I.T.s) Room.  Mike went to pick up the paint, stain, and brushes that the City Park and Rec. Dept. donated for fixing up the playground equipment.  Amy, Randy, their daughter, my two boys and I headed over to start work on the Tennis Court.

The Junior League of Great Falls has a place called the KITs Room. This room is used when a child has to be removed from their parents & home. The Great Falls Jaycees will be working with our friends to help restock the KITs Room. Many of these children must leave everything they own behind in order to leave safely. The police bring the children to The Kits Room and provide them with items they need, such as diapers, personal hygiene products, clothes, backpack, and much more. The KITs Room continually needs to be restocked. Right now they are short of teen-aged clothes for boys & girls, backpacks, diapers and fun things for girls such as ponytail holders. If you would like to help provide for the children in our city who need it the most, gather up a few things and Ron Fox or another Jaycee Member will gladly come get them from you.

Youth Service America
HUGE TURN OUT FOR
The
Annual National Youth Service Day
Jaycee Park Cleanup Project

Dannette started the day by handing out over 80 FREE National Youth Service Day T-shirt donated by State Farm and printed professionally by our friends at Frontier Designs.  Chuck picked up the Cinnamon Rolls and muffins that were purchased at a discount from Baker Bob's and served them to all the hungry volunteers.
Once everyone's stomachs were filled we began our quest to improve Jaycee Park.

Ryan and Tim planned out and drew caulk lines for the new basketball court free throw and three point lines.  Leslie cleaned off the court, and Kim, Amy, Randy, Mike and several other people began painting in the new lines.  Once the lines were painted the basketball pole and backboard was painted.  Everyone did a great job!!!

Several people jumped on the opportunity to begin staining the wooden playground equipment.  Volunteers came from all of our local middle schools, high schools, and colleges.  There were volunteers from CMR, Great Falls High, North, Paris, East, The University of Great Falls, Great Falls University of Technology, AmeriCorps, The Boys and Girls Club of North Central Montana, and the Great Falls Jaycees.  Everyone was working together as a team to help cleanup and improve Jaycee Park.

Several students began painting the swings.  Both swing sets needed to be painted.
The first just needed a second coat of paint, while the other one needed a complete paint job.

It is absolutely incredible how many different projects can be started and completed in a three hour volunteer workday, when there are over 60 volunteers.  Another project that was completed was the painting of the lines in the tennis courts.  Christy, Leslie, Kim and several volunteers used duct tape to tape off the lines they were going to paint.  Once the tape was down they began painting the lines.  They applied two coats of paint using 2" rollers.  The paint then dried and the tape was removed by Ryan, Mike, Chris and Tim leaving perfect white lines for anyone wanting to play tennis.

Our friends at Pepsi provided refreshments throughout the day and during lunch.  They provided a variety of different drinks including Pepsi, Diet-Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7-UP, and water.  Around 12:00 p.m. (noon) we began serving lunch to all the volunteers.  The lunch included: Pizza's donated by our friends at Papa John's, and freshly cooked and steaming hot chicken, and ice cool potato salad provided by our friends at Golden Corral.  We would like to thank our sponsors for their gracious donations.  We enjoy being able to serve our volunteers a special meal for all their hard work.

Forde Nursery graciously donated two truckloads of bark mulch.  Krista, Ryan, Dannette, Chris, Tim and several other volunteers went to work removing the old bark mulch and replacing it with the new.  This really helped to improve the appearance of Jaycee Park.  It will also help the tree keep in moisture during the hot dry days of summer.

The Great Falls Jaycees would like to thank the City Park and Rec. Department for allowing us to Adopt Jaycee Park and for allowing us the opportunity to cleanup and improve Jaycee Park.  Thank you also for providing all the paint for the swings, slides and basket ball court, and the stain for staining the wooden equipment.

We would also like to thank Waste Management for providing two portable restrooms.
People usually do not think about the convenience of having a restroom provided until the time comes to us it.

Adam and several other volunteers began painting the bike rack in front of Jaycee Pool.  Notice the difference.  It is incredible what a couple coats of paint can do to the appearance of a bike rack.  The Great Falls Jaycee plan to paint the Jaycee Pool house sometime this summer.  We are currently working with the Great Falls Park and Rec. Department to try to make this possible.

There are several more pictures that will be posted in the next few days.
Please continue to stop back to see what pictures have added.

It was a pleasure working with all the members of AmeriCorps and the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Montana.  The Great Falls Jaycees look forward to working with you in the future on other projects and again next year for Great Fall's 2nd Annual National Youth Service Day.

Help us get the youth of Great Falls busy volunteering their time to improve our community.  Most young people who volunteer as youth continue serving throughout a lifetime.  The City of Great Falls depends on youth as vital community assets.

National Youth Service Day (NYSD) is the largest service event in the world, mobilizing millions of young Americans to identify and address the needs of their communities through service. National Youth Service Day is also an opportunity to support youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educate the public, the media and elected officials about the role of youth as community leaders.

JAYCEE POOL HOUSE
EXTREME MAKEOVER

Jaycee Park (by Roller City)
June 12th & 13th, 2004

How Did You Spend Your Weekend?

The Great Falls Jaycees worked through the weekend helping the City of Great Falls preserve and improve the appearance of the Jaycee Pool House.  Saturday, June 12th, 2004 around 12:00 p.m.
Tim Austin picked up all the supplies for painting the pool from a very helpful crew at Forsyth Paint & Decorating.  The City of Great Falls purchased the necessary paint and supplies for this project.  Tim then began scraping off all the old paint from the wood trim and on the cinder blocks around the pool building.  Once this was completed he applied a special primer/sealer to all the bare areas.

Sunday, June 13th, 2004, at 9:00 a.m. members of the Great Falls Jaycees began to show up to begin the Extreme Makeover of the Jaycee Pool Building.  Kim Trueman took on the tedious task of doing all the cutting around the edges of all the walls and around the bottom of the pool building.  Dena Thares started the first coat of paint in the front of the building and began working here way around the building.  Tim Austin climbed up on top and began to paint the high, hard to reach area's.  Christy Austin arrived and began helping Dena apply the first coat of paint.  Matt Austin (12), Drew Austin (8) and Cheyenne Trueman (8) began painting the back of the Jaycee Pool House.

Once the first coat of paint was applied the whole crew began applying the second coat of paint.  The second coat went on a lot easier.  Christy began painting the wooden trim pieces around the upper part of the building, Kim continued to paint all the edges and parts that needed to be trimmed.  Dena began painting the steel doors, and Tim continued to do all the hard to reach areas around the building.  Melissa Graves and her daughter stopped by and helped paint for awhile.  They began applying the second coat on one of the back walls.  Russ Floerchinger stopped by to lend a hand.  Russ painted the metal pipes, and applied the second coat of paint along the wooden trim pieces.  Finally around 5:00 pm we picked up all the equipment, cleaned ourselves off, and headed home to enjoy the last few hours of the weekend.  Another Project Completed !!!

The gates around the pool were locked, so we could not paint inside the fenced in area.  We are hoping the City Park and Rec. will finish the job.  The door inside the pool area looks like it needs to be replaced along with the wood on the wall above the door.

The Great Falls Jaycees have a new 3'0 x 6'8 Six Panel ThurmaTru 6-Panel Prehung Steel Door that has been donated and has been installed at Jaycee Pool by the the City Park & Rec.

Our goal was to help improve the safety and appearance of Jaycee Park.
